Four new acts to Roskilde Festival 2010

British band Muse joins the programme alongside three Danish acts, The Kissaway Trail, Dizzy Mizz Lizzy and C.V. Jørgensen.

This Roskilde December is out of the ordinary. Our online Advent calendar offers new acts. At the same time, other names are confirmed, and so the following four report ready for Roskilde Festival 2010.

MUSE (UK) is one of the most requested acts among Roskilde Festival's audience. We are pleased to welcome this major band back. Muse shows traces of Queen, U2 and Radiohead. However, front man Matthew Bellamy's level of ambition makes most references seem small once the trio aims the lazer canons at distant galaxies. Often the band brings an arsenal of lighting that matches the flamboyant future rock.

THE KISSAWAY TRAIL (DK) play alternative rock with a melodic confidence and have already won international respect for their both easy-on-the-ear and faceted debut album. The long-awaited follow-up, Sleep Mountain, is released in March. The first single ”SDP” indicates that we are in for another cornucopia of grandiose arrangements and vocal harmonies. This is Danish indie rock heading towards the same international skies as Mew and Figurines.

DIZZY MIZZ LIZZY (DK) were the biggest Danish rock band in the mid-90s. They split up in 1998 but have recently announced a Reunion Tour 2010. And of course, the Danish heroes should play the biggest music festival in Scandinavia. The trio made Danish music history with a batch of songs that had the rocking energy from Led Zeppelin and the special melodic touch from The Beatles.

C.V. JØRGENSEN (DK) is one of the most cherished songwriters and poets in Denmark. His concert at Roskilde Festival will be a celebration of both the artist's incomparable back catalogue and his extensive Roskilde CV. We have had the honour of the great artist's presence eight times already and are proud to have him back again.

Pavement to Roskilde 2010

The US slacker rocksters join the program together with Balkan icon Shantel.

The busy December days seem to continue. Today we have an American band ready whose reunion and upcoming European tour have made lots of Roskilde-goers cross their fingers in anticipation.

PAVEMENT (US) is one of USA's most beloved and trendsetting indie bands ever. Their laid-back slacker style started in a weird combination of college rock, cosmic Americana and evergreen lofi pop. This return of a trendsetting band stand alongside other golden Roskilde reunions such as My Bloody Valentine, Pixies and The Velvet Underground.

SHANTEL & BUCOVINA ORKESTAR CLUB (DE) was announced earlier today in our online Advent calendar. Their concert will be one of those motley, colourful and multicultural celebrations that are an unavoidable part of Roskilde Festival. With the German pioneer Shantel in front, a politically-charged Balkan party mixed up with ska, reggae and pop is guaranteed.

More music coming up
These are busy days. Last Saturday we announced British band Muse alongside Danish acts The Kissaway Trail, Dizzy Mizz Lizzy and C.V. Jørgensen – and US punks NOFX were the very first band to be announced in our online Advent calendar.

Keep opening those doors in the Advent calendar. More musical treats may very well follow soon.

Metal and Nordic volume to Roskilde Festival

Sólstafir delivers symphonic, ice-cold post-metal to Roskilde Festival 2010 - photo: SvartTrast
Serena-Maneesh, Sólstafir and Valient Thorr add loads of guitars, sparks and Nordic coldness to Roskilde Festival 2010.

Three small but powerful bands form this Wednesday’s announcement. This batch is good news for anyone with a penchant for guitar noise, rock and
metal.

SERENA-MANEESH (N) sounds like My Bloody Valentine or Sonic Youth if these had grown up in the far North on a diet of reindeer meat and melted snow. The critically acclaimed band played Roskilde Festival back in 2006 after having released its debut album. Now the much awaited follow-up, S-M 2: Abyss In B Minor, is on the way, so we are looking forward to a new visit from the Norwegian jøtuler’s massive noise rock.

SÓLSTAFIR (ISL) combine their starting point in the metal genre with symphonic sequences, which is reminiscent of post-rock and gives the music a cinematic rush to the stomach. Several sources have mentioned the band as some kind of hard-hitting, metal counterpart to Sigur Rós.

VALIENT THORR (US) play some of the most unfashionable, but also effective heavy rock that you can imagine. A great experience is almost guaranteed for everyone who has tapped their feet to the sounds of Black Sabbath, MC5 and Motörhead.

Exotic sounds to Roskilde Festival

Boban i Marko Markovic Orkestar leaves the listener dizzy in a cloud of brandy, brass, gaudy tone colours and high tempos.
Boban i Marko Markovic Orkestar, Céu, Choc Quib Town and Dulsori add color and heat to this year’s music programme.

Last week we focused on heavy sounds, guitar noise and Nordic coldness. This week the thermometer displays high temperatures again – at least with regards to the band announcements. We have a small package of artists ready, confirming that Roskilde Festival's music programme has the entire globe as home turf.

BOBAN I MARKO MARKOVIC ORKESTAR (SER)
has been hailed as one of the best players in Eastern European music – at least since they recorded the soundtrack to the Kusturica film Underground. Today, the great musician and trumpet player has brought junior to the helm. Father and son front an orchestra that leaves the listener dizzy in a cloud of brandy, brass, gaudy tone colours and high tempos.

CÉU (BRA) has already taken a wide audience across the Atlantic by storm. In fact, no Brazilian artist has gotten as far as Céu on the US Billboard chart since Astrud Gilberto and her "The Girl from Ipanema". The new, coming Brazilian superstar draws on salsa, bossa nova and hip hop in a hot and sophisticated mix.

CHOC QUIB TOWN (COL) plays sunny hip hop with Caribbean waves and milk chocolate-coloured skin. Hip hop, funk and salsa form the starting point for the trio whom we appreciate having back on the poster after they had to change their touring plans last year.

DULSORI (KOR) imitates the rage of the elements by means of especially drums and powerful vocals. Focus is on the resounding primordial force of percussion instruments. And through music, rhythms and dancing, the band wants to recreate an original state of well-being and cohesion with the modern, Western audience.

New bands ready for Roskilde 2010

The Rumour Said Fire masters gorgeous vocal harmonies and nostalgic folk-pop.
Afenginn, Blackie and The Rodeo Kings and The Rumour Said Fire are added to the festival poster.

Today's music package features three varied acts from Canada and Denmark.

AFENGINN (DK) call their music 'bastard etno' and may soon take a seat next to Kaizers Orchestra and Gogol Bordello. Band leader Kim Nyberg and his entourage of mad musicians mix klezmer with Danish fiddler music in their own bubbling witch’s cauldron.

BLACKIE AND THE RODEO KINGS (CAN)
is a so-called super group in Canada, made up of three highly recognised solo artists and sought-after session musicians. But in this constellation, the trio finally get an opportunity to practice their love for roots rock, country, blues and folk.

THE RUMOUR SAID FIRE (DK) is
Denmark's new rock hope. They nestle impressively up to the sounds of Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys and Fleet Foxes, and they collect awards and acknowledgement even though they have only released one single, but highly promising EP.

Three new acts ready for Roskilde

The Temper Trap knows the same secret music recipes that have made U2, Coldplay and Muse into world stars.
The Temper Trap, Electrojuice and FM Belfast are added to the festival poster.

Today's batch of new acts is good news for fans of both rock and electronic music.

THE TEMPER TRAP (AUS) knows the same secret music recipes that have made U2, Coldplay and Muse into world stars. Singer Dougy Mandagi delivers exquisite vocals – a singing voice so captivating that he could sing about stock exchanges and still make the small hairs stand up. The Temper Trap may very well be on the brink of great fame.

ELECTROJUICE (DK) blends electronica, hip hop and techno and has already supported The Prodigy and Kraftwerk on tour. The young duo made their debut with the EP Solrock where they demonstrate that they are part of the same musical family as Trentemøller.

FM BELFAST (ISL) plays electronic pop music with a festive groove and a tongue-in-cheek attitude. The band writes engaging songs about city life, restlessness and escape but has also won many hearts with a unique interpretation of Rage Against The Machine's "Killing in the Name".

Them Crooked Vultures to Roskilde
The super group with members from Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin and Queens of the Stone Age is ready to rock this summer's festival.

Such a lineup almost sounds too good to be true – Dave Grohl, John Paul Jones and Josh Homme in one and the same band!

Nonetheless, the band is a living reality, and we are proud to present this scorching hot rock phenomenon as one of this year's headliners at Roskilde Festival.

THEM CROOKED VULTURES (US/UK) almost set a new standard for rock super groups. The lineup is as follows: Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters and Nirvana on the drums, Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones on bass and Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age on vocals/guitar.

The band has put out an album full of psychedelic, groovy rock music, and the joy of playing is so big that the three rock godfathers have already promised a follow-up.

With Them Crooked Vultures we present both legends of 24-carat gold and a new sparkling star on the international rock sky.

No surprise þá langar mig að sjá ofangreinda sveit.

Hróarskelduhátíðin er komin á gott ról með tilkynningar sínar um hljómsveitir sem spila á komandi hátíð. Í morgun var tilkynnt að gamla rokksveitin Motörhead með Lemmy og félaga innanborðs myndi koma fram á hátíðinni í ár. Rokkunnendur munu sennilega upplifa það þegar hárin rísa á hnakkanum þegar lög á borð við Ace of Spades munu hljóma á Appelsínugulasviðinu í sumar.

Þá tilkynntu forsvarsmenn hátíðarinnar einnig að breska pönksveitin Gallows og breska prog-rokk-sveitin Porcupine Tree væru á meðal þeirra sveita sem troða upp í ár - mörgum Hróarskelduaðdáendum til mikillar gleði, en báðar sveitir voru hátt skrifaðar á óskalistanum - að sögn hátíðarhaldara.

Female firepower to Roskilde Festival
Robyn and Florence + The Machine join this summer's music programme.

Last week we announced a tremendous group of the toughest rock alfa males, including Lemmy, Dave Grohl and Josh Homme. This Monday we present a couple of female front figures who match the strengths of their male colleagues.

ROBYN (S) is one of the most beloved and – despite her young age – long-lasting pop acts. She has gone from being a child star to an alternative artist who combines artistic curiosity with a broad audience appeal. The Swedish singer's last visit almost made the tent canvas of the Cosmopol stage fly off, and Robyn has since expressed her enthusiasm for Roskilde Festival's audience. We are looking forward to another visit from one of Scandinavia's most intelligent and independent pop stars.

FLORENCE + THE MACHINE (UK) combines the best from Kate Bush and Amy Winehouse in her own expressive pop music, and in the UK she is already an established artist on the polished floors. It was evident last Tuesday when the red-haired elf girl with the incredible vocals won an award for the debut album Lungs at the Brit
Awards. It is hard to find musical girl power more artistically powerful than this new pop phenomenon whose flamboyant musical expression is often matched by equally colourful stage costumes.

Alice in Chains to Roskilde
The rumour is true: the grunge heroes rock the festival this summer.

Sometimes rumours travel faster than the formal carrier pigeons can keep up with. Many lovers of hard rock and grunge have crossed their fingers for a long time to experience this band, so we are pleased to confirm the rumour that was kick-started yesterday by people close to the band.

ALICE IN CHAINS (US) visits Roskilde Festival – for the first time ever in the band’s over 20-year-long existence.

Alice in Chains is part of the proudest flag bearers of the Seattle scene along with Nirvana and Pearl Jam. However, they show more muscle than lumberjack shirts, and a classic such as Dirt can easily be considered one of the best hard rock albums of the 90s.

With Black Gives Way to Blue from 2009, Alice in Chains has made an album that measures up to the classic material. So the band’s first visit at Roskilde Festival could not have a better timing.

The original lead singer Layne Staley died in 2002, but the replacement named William Duvall has a voice that compensates well for the loss.

More to come next week
A sentence much quoted in many of our recent news articles: look forward to more exciting music next week.

Brit power to Roskilde

Kasabian is ready for Roskilde Festival – the band's very first concert on Danish soil.
Kasabian and Wild Beasts are added to the music programme.

Union Jack sways proudly over today's announcement. We have two solid, British bands ready, of which especially the first has been in high demand among our audience.

KASABIAN are England’s new superstars, and on their latest album, West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, they really unfold their strong-on-refrains but also experimental Brit rock. The band continues the tradition from Oasis, Primal Scream and The Stone Roses but also chases new sounds. In the UK, they are presented with the biggest font sizes on magazine front-pages and festival posters. The concert at Roskilde Festival is Kasabian's very first on Danish soil.

WILD BEASTS play mystical, moonstruck and melodic indie pop that would make both Morrissey and Brett Anderson nod proudly in approval. The band’s second album – Two Dancers from 2009 – fulfills the promises made on the debut album from the year before: pop, folk, funk and cabaret combined in an original wrapping from a band that is already confident about its musical mission.

Gorillaz invade Roskilde this summer
The animated star band plays our festival – one out of only two festival concerts this year.
Plastic Beach is set to arrive in Denmark this summer as the music of GORILLAZ (UK) invades Roskilde Festival.

With songs from all three albums (Gorillaz, Demon Days and Plastic Beach), this Roskilde concert will include full production, featuring multimedia video animation, artwork and film.

Plastic Beach has been hailed by critics as an artistic peak for Gorillaz – a 16-track tour de force through pop, rap, dub, soul and electronica, from east to west and further still. Gorillaz are bothculturally significant, critically admired and commercially viable, appealing to the broadest of demographics.

So, it is with great pride that we can announce their only North European summer concert in 2010 – and one of only two festival concerts.

Make way for pretty-but-vacant singer 2D, satanic bassist Murdoc Niccals, Japanese guitar prodigy Noodle and amiable man-mountain drummer Russel Hobbs. Few other incarnate the zeitgeist in our climate-endangered, web-browsing world community better than these lovable, animated characters.
